In 1990 Wayan Karja began teaching art and art appreciation at the School of Fine Arts in Ubud and at The Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) in Denpasar. Over the years he has taught painting and western art history and held a wide range of teaching positions.

Currently I Wayan Karja is Dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Denpasar Bali.

painting workshops

I Wayan Karja teaches colour, form and composition at workshops in Bali and overseas including Australia, Europe and the USA. The workshops aim to demonstrate:

  • painting techniques based on the colours of the traditional Balinese Mandala
  • philosophy of the Balinese cosmology
  • the use of colour for meditation, centring and unifying the self
